FAQ: What are the raw material moisture content requirements for NPK fertilizer granulators?

Answer: Different types of NPK fertilizer granulators have distinct standards for raw material moisture content. Mainstream equipment operates within specific, optimal ranges; adhering to these is crucial for ensuring high granulation rates and product quality, as well as maintaining stable NPK production line operations.

Disc and rotary drum granulators are designed for a moisture content of 25%–35%—the standard range for NPK wet granulation—where moderate moisture allows raw materials to bind and form quickly into round, plump granules with uniform strength. In contrast, double-roller press granulator (dry granulation) requires no added water; raw material moisture must be strictly controlled between 5% and 12%. This process relies on high-pressure extrusion of dry material, resulting in hard, non-caking granules.

Abnormal moisture levels directly impact production outcomes. If moisture is too low, the powder lacks sufficient binding properties, leading to low granulation rates, excessive dust, and loose, poorly formed granules, which significantly reduces the final yield. Conversely, excessive moisture causes material to stick to discs or rollers and leads to equipment clogging and frequent production stoppages. It also results in granules exceeding moisture limits and places a heavy burden on drying systems, making the product prone to deformation, cracking, and caking, thereby sharply increasing the rate of substandard products.

In actual production, it is recommended to adjust raw material moisture levels based on the specific equipment type and fine-tune them using screening and drying machinery. Stabilizing moisture parameters can boost NPK granulation rates to over 95%, ensuring efficient and steady production.
